Meet Our Team

Dr. Kelly Roy Welch

Veterinarian

As a child, Dr. Kelly Roy grew up in a household that always had at least 4 dogs and spent many weekends traveling with her mother showing Cocker Spaniels. She began grooming dogs at a young age and continued to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian through high school. She went to the University of Illinois for her undergraduate degree in animal science while there she obtained even more experience working at the university dairy farm and with the horse breeding program all while working at a local vet clinic as well.

In 2002, she graduated from the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation from veterinary school, she and her husband (Dr. Chris Welch) moved to Lake Geneva. In 2008, Dr. Roy joined the Lake Geneva Animal Hospital team, primarily working at the Geneva Lakes Animal Hospital in Walworth. Post graduation, she completed advanced training in both acupuncture and behavior. She enjoys working with all types of animals, but primarily works on dogs and cats.

Much of Dr. Roy’s free time is spent being a spectator at one of her children’s sporting events or spending time outdoors with her family and animals. Dr. Roy and Dr. Welch have 4 children together and currently share their house with 3 dogs and 2 cats (and usually several foster animals).

Dr. Chris Welch

Veterinarian

Dr. Chris Welch grew up in central Illinois spending much of his time pursuing his interest in athletics. While pursuing a degree in biology, he played both baseball and basketball for Knox College in Galesburg IL. During his senior project studying Cardinals, he decided that he would like to become a veterinarian so he could use his love for biology and animals. Upon graduating from Knox College, Dr. Welch moved to Urbana/Champaign, IL to work at a local veterinary clinic to gain experience and help solidify his choice to become a veterinarian. He continued to work for the local veterinary clinic while in veterinary school at the University of Illinois.

He graduated from the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002 and joined Drs. Scot and Mona Hodkiewicz at their practice at Lake Geneva Animal Hospital. In 2008, they decided to open the Geneva Lakes Animal Hospital in Walworth.

Dr. Welch has a special interest in oncology and often completes his continuing education in oncology. Recently, he has become interested in additional treatment for cancer and has joined with Medivet Biologics using autologous cancer vaccines. He also works with Medivet to offer stem cell therapy for the treatment of other diseases including (but not limited to) arthritis.

Dr. Welch has never lost his competitiveness and love of athletics. He spends much of his free time coaching his 4 children, especially in basketball. When he is not coaching or being a spectator for his children’s activities, he loves to fish, golf and spend time with his friends and family.
